Worth columnist and father of three, Arick Wierson, lays out the ultimate gift list for Father’s Day 2021 for the dads who have just about everything.
Forget flowers, it’s Father’s Day. It’s time to get manly.
Fifty-one.
For the majority of my adult life, whenever I heard the number 51, I immediately thought of just two things. Well, mainly one thing, but sometimes two things.
As someone who spent years studying and working in Brazil, the first thing that generally comes to mind when I think about the number 51 is the famous Cachaça 51 Pirassununga, the rum-like beverage that serves as the backbone of the Caipirinha, the popular Brazilian elixir that invaded America sometime in the early 1990s. 51 Pirassununga is potent stuff—rumor has it that if you have an ethanol-powered engine in Brazil and you find your gas tank empty, you can pour a bottle of 51 into your car’s gas tank and it will get you at least to the nearest gas station.
Now the other thing that would also occasionally come to mind whenever I came across the number 51 is a distant memory of my crotchety old junior high math teacher, Mr. Nielsen, who once dubbed 51 a “sneaky non-prime number.” Yes, 51 is divisible by 3. (For those readers not fond of doing math in your head, 51 divided by 3 equals 17, in case you’re wondering.)
And for many years, at least for me, that was about it when it came to the number 51: Brazilian booze and a prickly junior high algebra teacher—that is until this spring, when, suddenly, House Democrats, flush with mojo after their party had successfully secured control of the White House, House and Senate, passed legislation to make our nation’s capital, Washington, D.C., the 51st state of the union.
The D.C. statehood movement is one that has long enjoyed broad support from Democrats, and the majority of Washingtonians, as it would finally give federal representation to nearly 700,000 residents who currently have none. But the city’s deep blue political contours mean that if the nation’s capital becomes the 51st state of the union, it could fundamentally upend the political power dynamic in our beleaguered two-party system—particularly in the Senate.
Now I must confess that none of this really has much at all to do with Father’s Day—that third Sunday every June our nation has reserved for paying special homage to those important men who have played a fatherly role in our rearing—incidentally, something for which we can all thank former President Richard Nixon; fun fact: it was the embattled 37th president who made Father’s Day a permanent national holiday by signing it into law in 1972. Nonetheless, as this year’s Father’s Day approaches, and with the number 51 increasingly on mind, I thought it apropos to put forth 51 gifts ideas befitting the dads, stepdads, granddads and any other dads in our lives.
All of the 51 items in this year’s guide are ones that I or one of my team of expert reviewers tested, tasted or tried out in one way or another. The prices of these gifts range from $20 to nearly $200,000; there is literally something for all budgets and bailiwicks. Readers should be cautioned that this list is not a ranking per se; it would be featherbrained to attempt to compare a top-end grill, a pair of silver cufflinks and a 15-foot-long wine locker against one another; rather, think of this shopping guide as a smorgasbord of 51 gift ideas for the discriminating and distingué father figure who seemingly already has everything.
So, without further delay, and with a nod to Brazilian cachaça, Mr. Nielsen and D.C. statehood, I present Worth’s 51 phenomenal Father’s Day gift ideas.

One of my favorite jokes in Spanish has to do with an Argentine tourist in New York City who doesn’t speak English and is trying to buy socks. When he finally sees a pair hanging on a display rack, he tells the salesman “¡Eso sí que es!”—which translates to “yes, that’s it,” but when said aloud in Spanish sounds like ‘S-O-C-K-S.’ Anyway, I bring this up only to point out that it could be a useful icebreaker for dad if he happens to be traveling in a Spanish-speaking location in the coming months and he wants to draw attention to the new marine-themed Guy Harvey socks he is sporting—thanks, of course, to his conservation-minded progeny who gave them to him for Father’s Day. This collection of memorable high-quality socks consists of more than 50 ocean-inspired designs that features the iconic, colorful artwork hand-drawn by Guy Harvey, one of the world’s most recognized marine wildlife artists and foremost authorities on sharks and ocean conservation. It’s summer and it’s time for dad to up his grilling game by adding some flavor to his next outdoor dinner with Wildwood grilling planks. Ideal for fish, these grilling planks are cut from pieces of lumber that are too short to be used in the construction industry, giving this accessory some serious environmental chops. The planks have zero pesticides, herbicides or chemicals. If dad would enjoy adding some pizzazz to his grilling this summer, this is the way to do it.

Tecovas was founded in 2014 by Paul Hedrick, who left a lucrative career in finance in Manhattan to return home to his native Texas with the dream of creating the first direct-to-consumer cowboy boot. The Dillon is a striking and decisive cowboy boot featuring exotic caiman belly leather hand-lasted in a timeless cowboy profile that’s dressed to impress. An angled heel and signature Tecovas hand-corded calfskin shaft completes the elegant profile. Not into the pecan shade of caiman belly? No worries—the Dillon comes in two additional hues: Mahogany and Midnight. Rooted in western traditions and exceptional handmade craftsmanship, this is a great gift for dads anywhere. At nearly $500 (or four instalments of $123.75 by splitting it with Afterpay), they are worth every penny.
